“A caterpillar,” Lu Han replies, and Sehun smiles at him. It’s a sunny morning, and Sehun is getting ready to go to the hospital, a marathon of 24 hours of work waiting for him. Lu Han is still in his boxers, though, still lying on his bed, his naked torso bathing under the early sunlight.

“Why a caterpillar?” He asks, and Lu Han kneels on the bed, biting his lower lip.

“Because they can change. They can transform. They can become something beautiful.”

Sehun stops midway through getting his tie fixed, and he looks back at Lu Han, who stands up to help him. “Wouldn’t your favorite animal be the butterfly, then?”

“No,” Lu Han says, fixing his tie, “being perfect is easy, you know. But the one who transforms. That’s who I want to be.”
